The marks in publications


There is today quite an extensive interest in the posts, as is evidenced by the number of articles on them in both the publications of local history and industrial archaeology societies, in general magazines and of course on websites. Unfortunately, their historical remarks are in some cases less than accurate (see this site's Frequently asked questions).

Local history and industrial archaeology society publications

Local authority publications

The London Borough of Bromley and the Borough of Elmbridge have both published leaflets on their local marks -- Bromley: Coal posts (1995), and Elmbridge: Coal and wine tax posts (2006). Elmbridge also has a list of marks on the council website: Location of Coal and Wine Tax Posts within the Borough.
