There are three sub-types:
- Type 3a: plates, about 15 mm thick, with four holes for bolts.
- Type 3b: boxes, about 60 mm deep which resemble plates when built into parapets with one face exposed.
- Type 3c: plates with rounded corners, about 15 mm thick, with four holes for bolts.
The only examples of this type are in West Middlesex, and seem always to have been erected in conjunction
with a nearby Type 2 post.
